San Francisco, Palo Alto, curved timber staircases

This is a particularly beautiful staircase that we built for a private home in California, the Sunshine State of the USA. 

This helical, timber-veneered staircase links three storeys and has a sculptural appearance. The underside is fitted with a sprinkler system, allowing the timber staircase to be used even in the event of a fire. 

Structural timber staircases have many advantages over steel structures. Timber is considerably lighter, and constructing a staircase entirely from timber is simpler than using a steel core that must be clad on all sides.
